Personal Days 2027 — Electronic Vote (Online Only)
We’re holding an electronic vote on how to request the carrier award Personal Days for 2027.
- Award by seniority (bid during vacation bidding: Sept–Dec)
- Award first come, first serve (cannot bid until vacation bidding opens in January)
Holiday Proposal Passes Vote
What changes
- On a holiday, members may now volunteer to work the job and shift they normally hold on their day to work as their first option.
What stays the same
- Awarding (filling vacancies after the “work your own job” step) is still based on the member’s position on the holiday rotation.
- Forcing is still done by the member’s position on the seniority roster.
How jobs will be filled
- To keep forcing to a minimum, we will only fill the jobs/shifts the carrier requests.
- If more members volunteer for a job/shift than the carrier is filling, awards will be made in holiday rotation order.
Example
If the carrier is filling 3 positions in Light Repair, but 4 members normally work that day and volunteer, the 3 awarded will be selected based on holiday rotation position (the 4th would be awarded a job based on other submitted bids).

Support Railway Safety Legislation
Advocate for Safer Railways
In February 2025, Representative Emilia Sykes introduced H.R. 971: RAIL Act to prevent derailments, improve inspections, and strengthen hazardous material transport regulations.
- No time limits on critical rail safety inspections
- Mandatory hotbox detectors every 10 miles on Class I railroads
- Increased penalties for safety violations
- New safety rules for crew sizes and hazardous shipments
Backed by IBEW and IAM, the RAIL Act prioritizes rail worker and public safety.
